Weekly Summary

This was the week of the car. Four of our six corporate news stories revolve around the auto industry, with Renault-Nissan, Daimler, BMW, Bosch and DENSO all indicating that they intend to ramp up their Mexican operations through the next few years, creating thousands of jobs. Meantime, the initial skirmishes in the battle for the telecoms sector continued, with regulator IFT reportedly finding links between Telmex and Dish Mexico that could infringe anti-trust rules, and Carlos Slim acquiring AT&T’s equity in América Móvil. PPG of the US bought Consorcio Comex to boost its coatings activities in Latin America.

After hours found a final World Cup tune to boost Mexico’s feelings after its team’s World Cup exit, and Hot Tamales explored the market standing of Mexican hot sauce.
